Accio – Brain-computer interface technology for stroke rehabilitation

The project produced a new research tool that gives new capacities to the motor recovery in stroke patients, based on EEG (Electroencephalography) and BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) technology and using FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation). The system records the brain signals and analyzes them in real time to detect the precise moment when the patient is imaging the hand movement and activate the FES device. This PAS (Paired Associative Stimulation) approach achieves a better motor recovery than current FES approaches. The system is a perfect tool for researchers in the field of neurorehabilitation who want to create and test new approaches.
